WALKING TO ASDA IN THE FOG: CRIPPLE CLUB with GORDON MIDGLEY & ARKESTAR by Mountain Songs published on 2021-07-09T11:28:26Z (Written by Terry Reeves) Terry Reeves: Lead Vocal Gordon Midgley: Guitars/Bass/Moog/ Backing Vocals Arkestar: Horns & Horn Arrangement Gary Reeves: Drums/Percussion Arrangement, Production & Final Mix by Gordon Midgley In case you’re wondering why the track is called what it is then I cannot tell a lie. it’s all Gordon’s fault. I was having an email conversation with him about life, the universe and everything when, for no reason I could easily glean at the time, he said “I’ve got to go and walk to Asda in the fog". I wasn’t sure if he meant he could only walk to Asda if there was fog or that he just needed a walk in the fog and Asda was as welcoming a place to go as anywhere else or, more simply, that he had to get some groceries and Asda was the nearest and most convenient place to go in such inclement weather. Whatever the reason, my immediate thought was “What a great title for a song…”. There’s certainly no shortage of songs about Covid-19 but I just couldn’t resist the temptation Gord had inadvertently sent my way to vent some of my Covid frustrations. If you chance read the lyrics and aren’t from the UK, I should explain that all of the words in capital letters are the names of UK supermarket chain stores. You may also be wondering why I mentioned the Royal Yacht so, for those of you that hadn’t heard, our wonderful government, in the midst of the pandemic and the financial constraints it was placing on the country, announced that it was commissioning the building of a new one at a cost of somewhere around 200 million pounds. Isn’t it good to know they have their fingers firmly on the pulse of public spending at times like these? For some time now, Gal and myself have wanted to work on a track with both Gord and Arkestar and for many reasons, this particular song seemed to lend itself really well to the idea. We’d therefore both like to thank them for lending their unrelentingly brilliant skills and commitment to the entire project and for making it such a complete pleasure to work on. We certainly had more fun than we’d a right to. Thanks again for listening. (Terry Reeves) Walking to ASDA in the fog Every step with a loud paradiddle Avoid a variant of thickening smog Strings of ministers in cabinet fiddle Who got it? Running to TESCO in falling snow Remaining safe, wash all our hands Vaccination waits for protection show Sharp scratch but no summer sands She got it He got it Skate to SAINSBURY’S on slippery ice Peering to find the unforgiven Lord Discuss the increasing price of rice Politicians cut with ceremonial sword Who needs it? One, two cold runnings to MORRISON’S way Sliding monobob a lonely lockdown Cresta pandemic flat on skeleton tray Oxford to Moderna safety COVID town Middle Adventurous trip to the ICELAND’S Climbing frozen peaks in cabinet change Arctic conditions finding blue diamonds Words of memoirs on only one page Who reads it? Freezer in ALDI like a 63 mission Hunting food to last past pandemic People buy rolls with zero nutrition Persuasion ignored by Academics Who wants it? They missed it Running to LIDL in the ice-kissed smog Chance of surviving a Third World War Is there time to buy a new Royal Yacht? I don’t think so!
