It's beleived that a shaan would be played according to the relevent raag to set the atmosphere and engage the sangat. Following to which a mangalacharan would be recited, this was a salutation to Akaal Purakh. These were done before the shabad was sung. This recording is a prime example of the puratan reet which would have been prominant in the darbar of Guru Gobind Singh Jee, which sadly is very rare to find now. This recording being just over 30 minutes long, many people have not got the pateinces or dicipline to concentrate on Gurbani Kirtan for this long, hence the decline of this type of kirtan. Whereas dhrupad kirtanis would do kirtan for hours at end. Dhrupad kirtan is something one can't listen to in the background, but something that needs to be listened to with concentration to be appreicitated. Its not for entertainment, but purely for spiritual develop Genre Religion & Spirituality
