Morning Show With Mary Jacobsen 2020-06-04 Micki McElya & Matthew Daniell by NCM Hub published on 2020-06-04T16:21:08Z Morning Show host Mary Jacobsen talks with Professor of History Micki McElya about our nation’s failure so far to adequately, publicly mourn the ever growing number of Americans who have died from COVID-19, and who often seem reduced to mere statistics. The author of the Pulitzer Prize nominated book, “The Politics of Mourning: Death and Honor in Arlington National Cemetery,” McElya talks about how national mourning after a disaster or war unites us. When we grieve together after great loss, McElya has written, “History catches its breath,” and out of many, “we become one.” When that doesn’t happen, we can become fragmented and rudderless. Jacobsen also speaks with Buddhist teacher Matthew Daniell of the Insight Meditation Center of Newburyport, who will discuss the importance of learning to embrace uncertainty. Even during extraordinarily uncertain times such as the ongoing pandemic, embracing uncertainty enables us to cultivate inner calm. That calm, explains Daniell, can in turn help us to tap previously unknown depths of resourcefulness.
