Mourning Dove: Song (Palo Alto, May 2018) by Nick Virzi: Natural Sound published on 2018-09-12T02:29:57Z Recorded at Palo Alto's Werry Park (May, 2018). This series shows the adaptive abilities of some birds in urban environments. Both the Mockingbird and the Mourning Dove have adapted their songs in imitation of the sounds around them – note the incorporation of car alarms, in particular. These anthrophonic sounds, or sounds created by humans, appear to have similar affects on birds capable of radically adapting to urban or suburban conditions. One may hear that the imitative songs of each species are almost musically indistinguishable. Indeed, they share many of the same motivic musical structures, iterative timing, and tessitura – likely the only possible way of being heard in such an environment. For comparison, listen to the original song of the Mourning Dove. You may also hear a dawn chorus, captured from Windy Hill, overlooking the entirety of Silicon Valley. Genre Natural Sound
