Allegro vivo from Concerto in G Major for 2 Flutes--Domenico Cimarosa by Nik Engelhart published on 2017-02-15T03:21:22Z On February 11th, I gave a senior flute recital at Capital University. I have been working for this for several years, and hope to continue on in playing after graduation. Genre Classical Comment by Nik Engelhart A contempary of Mozart, Italian composer Cimarosa was likewise well-known for his operas, though his grand and intense melodies are in contrast to Mozart’s lighter style. He found fame early in life and moved from court to court around Europe; the composer was jailed around 1800 for siding with Italian rebels during an attempt to overthrow the Italian king. Many of his friends intervened to release him from prison. The Concerto in G Major for Two Flutes allows each player a moment of spotlight while also blending in with the accompaniment. Each role, when expressed in one voice, later comes back in the other voice to create a forward moving feel to the piece before the cadenza. The cadenza requires precision on both parts, beginning with runs in thirds before opening to a beautiful melodic section in the first flute as the second flute provides a rolling wave of undercurrent to complement the first. 2017-02-15T03:25:05Z
