Storytime
Cool, calm & collected.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, 96. Always loved music of different genres, from a very young age. Started listening to House Music (which is what I play and produce today) from the tender age of 10 back in 2006, at this point in time, I started exploring dj softwares such as Atomix and Virtual DJ, while collecting music at the same time. I learned a little about how to dj and spin records on vinyl in 2007 with a cousin who went by the stage name ‘Dj Mastah’, from a township in Gauteng called Tokoza. Moved to Maputo, Mozambique in 2008, where I’d continue collecting music but only got back to self-learning how to mix music on Virtual Dj in 2010 and started releasing my series of mixes called ‘Mash-Ups With Nim-Phonik’. 3 years in after releasing many mixes which I learned to make using DAW within those 3 years, I got my first controller which I used to my advantage right away. I entered my first dj competition at the American International School of Mozambique’s Mayfair in May 2013, weeks into getting my controller, which I went on to grab 1st place in, which I also did again in 2014 and started playing at events a meeting amazing people through those years. In 2015, my music career went into a standstill as I found myself alone again, but this time in the city of Johannesburg. Continued releasing Mash Ups with Nim-Phonik in 2016 then went off in 2017 mainly because of university workload. Throughout all those years I wanted to learn and start producing music but never knew where to start from, until I met Malik Faquir and became friends in college in 2017. Through our passion for music, we’d exchange ideas and experiences in the music industry (which we still do) as we came from different backgrounds and I joined Sala Estimulante that very same year. We’d host dj sessions with friends on campus and in our apartments respectively as a way of improving our dj skills and getting our sound out there in both 2017 and 2018 until myself and Malik Faquir started playing professionally in 2019 and have been brainstorming our very first Sala Estimalante Sessions club night in Maputo City, showcasing quality underground music and groovy sounds by our artists and guest artist. After a breakthrough year in 2019, Malik and I formed a duo by the name of ‘No Rest For The Spacemen/NRFTS’ in 2020 from which we will be releasing music and performing under (performing as ‘NRFTS’). My vision is to go all the way with my sound and those surrounding me, to instigate colourful auras this sound. Grow, learn and promote new talent and ultimately giving them a platform to showcase their craft, through Sala Estimulante.
Nigel Muianga, also known as, Nim.
It has been constructive and fun. I never stop learning and I am surrounded by supportive and super talented individuals. The experience has been one to cherish
I became a member of Sala Estimulante shortly after I had met Malik Faquir and we exchanged several ideas and experiences in the music industry. Having found common ground, I had the privilege to become part of this wonderful family.
Thank you for your time
