Near Carrizo Plain - Western Meadowlark Echoes by oakandsage published on 2022-03-21T15:50:25Z Recorded on a rarely used road through open cattle range north of Carrizo Plain National Monument. This is the soundscape that I have been building my recording rig for, and you can perhaps understand why! However if you should ever attempt to record at Carrizo Plain, please be aware that there is almost constant air traffic above the national monument from 6AM-10PM. Winds in this area are also often quite high - note the name of nearby Wind Wolves Preserve. I was running late when I came upon this incredible soundscape, and I had less than an hour to capture it or I'd be trying to find a place to camp in the dark. My recording skill was not quite up to the task, and Lessons Were Learned. In the end, I decided this was the most salvageable recording of the lot, and applied heavy low cut and a dropoff below 1K to reduce the wind noise in the left mic to a (hopefully) tolerable rustling. Because this piece includes sounds (the wind noise) that are substantially altered from what is heard in the raw recording, it is not labeled as a field recording. It’s just EQ, but it changes the sound of the wind noise in the left ear pretty intensely without eliminating it entirely - so erring on the side of caution. EM272 quad array in SASS-style configuration; walnut side pieces fronted with polycarbonate. Design adapted from the tutorial by @acousticnature - any defects (wind susceptibility…) likely a result of my modifications Genre Nature
