John Kruth John Kruth New York John Kruth A musician with ten solo albums to his credit, John leads the nine piece New York based world/jazz ensemble TriBeCaStan (check them out at www.tribecastan.tv). A multi-instrumentaist, (Kruth plays a variety of stringed instruments including guitar, mandolin, banjo and sitar as well as flute and harmonica) John has performed and recorded with a wide diversity of artists from Ornette Coleman, Allen Ginsberg and Sam Shepherd, to Laurie Anderson, John Cale, the Master Musicians of Jajouka, the Violent Femmes, Garth Hudson and Rick Danko (of the Band) and has worked with producers Joel Dorn and Hal Willner. A professor of music, Kruth is currently teaching at Mount Saint Vincent. Kruth’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Progressive, Wire, Wax Poetics and Sing Out! among others. His books include the recently published Rhapsody In Black: The Life & Music of Roy Orbison (Hal Leonard/BackBeat Books - 2013), To Live’s To Fly: The Ballad of the Late, Great Townes Van Zandt, published by Da Capo Press in 2007 (winner of the 2008 ASCAP Deems- Taylor Award) as well as his first biography Bright Moments – The Life and Legacy of Rahsaan Roland Kirk published by Welcome Rain in 2000, (and subsequently translated into French and Japanese).
