Slain Rwandan Gospel Singer Kizito Mihigo Remembered in Masses around the World by pacificanetwork published on 2021-02-21T06:07:05Z One year ago Rwandan gospel singer Kizito Mihigo tried to flee Rwanda by crossing its southern border into Burundi. He had already spent four years in prison for recording a song in which he dared to say that the Rwandan Genocide was a tragedy for both Hutu and Tutsi people, that each group massacred members of the other, and, that only mutual compassion and forgiveness could lead to true reconciliation. Rwandan Police apprehended Mihigo at the Rwandan/Burundian border on February 13, 2020. Four days later they reported that he had committed suicide by hanging in a jail cell. Kizito was a devout Catholic, and few believe that he committed suicide. He was remembered in masses on four continents this week. Thanks to journalist and documentary filmmaker Benedict Moran for use of the recorded phone conversation between Kizito Mihigo and Ruhumuza Mbonyumutwa posted to his Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/393001139. The conversation will be included in a documentary film about Kizito Mihigo now in progress. Genre News & Politics
