Just Another Day on the Gravy Train by Robert Leslie published on 2013-06-21T21:41:03Z This song was sort of written as a hasty promo-piece for a last-minute gig at Googie's Lounge on Ludlow st - I needed some sort of gimmick to get people to come to the show, so I enthusiastically told everyone on my Facebook page that I'd be writing a brand new song specially for the show. I did it, for what it's worth, wrote it the day before the show & of course forgot half the lyrics at the moment of truth... Oh well! It's about chugging along and ignoring something. It's also about global warming, and it could be interpreted as a pro-life anthem. The recording was done with GarageBand on my rusty old iPad 1, using the built-in iPad mic, which is why the sound is so rubbish. I had to record the chorus standing at the other side of the room, and there's still a painful amount of clipping. But I made the damned thing so I'm sticking it up here anyway. It's free to download, by the way. lyrics: Just another day on the gravy train Sitting by the window Looking at the warm rain Lots of easy ways to feel the same Keep you waiting in the distance So I can't hear you call my name I ran out of breath in another race So I signed away the day job Got myself a suitcase But I caught up to me in another place Lucky by the sunset Just time is all it takes But don't you know that I'll still Keep my eyes peeled wide In the stream of cars and pesticide Keep your fingers tied To hold you on the other side As another day pretends to go forevermore Like a bright light in a hall of mirrors blinding out the door Just another day on the gravy train See you when the dreams come Left you when the sun came Just another dawn in the pouring rain Looking at the curtains Wearing off the sleep-stains But don't you know that I'll still Keep my eyes peeled wide In the stream of cars and pesticide Keep your fingers tied To hold you on the other side As another day pretends to go forevermore Like a bright light in a hall of mirrors blinding out the door Genre lowfi Comment by playdiem apex of this achingly beautiful song for me 2014-04-06T20:01:02Z
