orange music by Scott Edward Godin published on 2012-12-13T02:08:05Z In 1998 I began a series of compositions based on pieces from the 1994 album orange by the band The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, a group incorporating various blues gestures and forms within their own personal approach to the rock idiom (the term “punk blues” has been used to refer to their music). I was inspired by the band’s desire to create something unique and personal outside of a categorical genre, and I set out to do something similar in my own music, as I began incorporating material from songs on the album within a contemporary framework. Although it may be hard to identify the original songs in my compositions, I hope an association to the originals can be made on some level, and I hope the energy from the original album comes across on my “renditions.” Genre Classical Contains tracks flavour!
