Lament by solobasssteve published on 2014-05-23T11:00:39Z So, I was messing around with this progression yesterday, and looped the chords, some ambient goo and a solo. Was listening to it while reading the news about the UK election stuff that's going on, and it felt like the same sonic story as Grace And Gratitude 10 years ago. An exploration of the sadness around people adopting a politic of fear and distrust, peddled by a party of opportunists and targeted at the most vulnerable. The initial thought to playing yesterday was to explore a few new sound possibilities combining the Dunlop Super Bright strings that I've just put on my 6 string, and my MXR, Darkglass and Markbass pedals (see pic). So I'll tag the audio with what's happening there. This is probably the most despondent gear demo you'll ever hear ;) Genre Bass Comment by An ending ascend Very nice !! 2015-05-09T20:33:07Z Comment by Roey Haviv Its like watching a movie with my ears. 2014-06-04T21:16:34Z Comment by AgapeSoul Steve paints beautiful sonic pictures that tell stories without words! 2014-05-28T23:04:04Z Comment by lizardmcgee Fantastic lead tone 2014-05-24T17:43:29Z Comment by lizardmcgee Love the flange-feedback and echo before the lead comes back in 2014-05-24T17:42:40Z Comment by lizfrencham Ah... Perfect for unwinding after a long studio day. You have the most immaculately beautiful groove and your tone just keeps evolving into something more beautiful every day. :) 2014-05-24T13:51:04Z Comment by Mike Forrest Flynn Groovy ending 2014-05-23T12:10:06Z Comment by Gregory J Harper Wonderful Satriani-esque melody. Love it. 2014-05-23T11:30:29Z Comment by solobasssteve one of the cables from the looper had pulled out the back of the sound card, so I had to 'restereoize' the mono looper track, and did it with the TwoNotes WOS III plugin (the resulting signal is mixed at about 25% here) 2014-05-23T11:28:15Z Comment by solobasssteve here we've got the overdrives and the chorus (in flanger mode) on, with a tremolo, delay and reverb in my Lexicon… 2014-05-23T11:08:48Z Comment by solobasssteve and here the Chorus is off, and just the overdrives are on - Markbass, Darkglass, MXR in that order :) 2014-05-23T11:07:39Z Comment by solobasssteve here we've got the MXR bass overdrive and MXR bass chorus deluxe, with the 'flanger' button on. The VMT is before the Chorus and the Bass Overdrive last in the chain… 2014-05-23T11:05:51Z Comment by solobasssteve I left the VMT on for the ambient stuff here - just to see what it did to the shape of the envelope to have overdrive in there too... 2014-05-23T11:03:46Z Comment by solobasssteve I think the first bit of melody here is just the Darkglass VMT overdrive. 2014-05-23T11:02:18Z Comment by solobasssteve So this is my bass through my usual sound combo of Lexicon MPX-G2 and Markbass Minidist (that's on ALL the time. Love it) 2014-05-23T11:01:50Z
