the consumer ( or, thanks for shopping..did you find what you were looking for?) by Dave Orestes 1 published on 2023-05-05T14:50:57Z 80% of the US economy is driven by the consumer generally buying useless things.Capitalism is probably the best societal scenario but only if you couple it with empathy and a reasonable safety net for those who need it. How a society treats its lowest economic class is the measure of the strength and success of that society in my opinion..not how much top heavy wealth is created. True empathy is more than a passing thought or a superficial wave of the hand. There are plenty of people who have that empathy but there are plenty who don't lyrics got another day off so there's time on my hands got a credit card I know I can't afford but the tv says I want some things I don't need besides they say I deserve it so don't you see got to kill some time So I go downtown with all the rest walk around all day buying things I can't afford bring them home and stuff them in the attic in a box with all the things I've bought on my other days off on each I'll put a label with the date on a line this is something else I can do to kill some time today on my way I stopped at a light I watched some barefoot kids kick a can saw an old man hold out his hand kids on the corner making a plan have to do something bad to have fun stores with empty windows, broken glass in the homes everyone wearing tattered old clothes I wonder if they have a day off too?? maybe there is something else I should do? the light changed and I was back on my way I'll search the shelves to find where they sell empathy then I'll buy me some and take it home with me I'll put it in the attic with a date and a lable I hope I don't get home late there's good stuff on the cable Genre Folk & Singer-Songwriter Comment by SOUND23 Cool song, great vocals, and production!! 🌍 ☮︎ 👍 2023-12-10T21:53:01Z Comment by Lien Excellent dave. Acoustic keeps the story rolling and helps out some of the song punctuation. Great stuff Dave. 2023-07-09T00:07:29Z Comment by K2 and the Four “ Do you also wish to leave me?” Well, where would we go, said Peter...” You have the words of eternal life..,”... not sure if most know where they can find this... it’s getting harder to see!!😎 great track, sir!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2023-07-04T02:34:17Z Comment by Durge This is full of great imagery and settings that build up your message so cleverly constructed. Interesting social commentary. 2023-05-12T22:26:55Z Comment by David. k. A. Spencer. Great musical story book. Awesome & intriguing 2023-05-12T20:24:03Z Comment by Mount Famine Really enjoyed this, Dave :) 2023-05-11T12:30:52Z Comment by Bruce Avery Your social commentary is just great, & important….I hear sort of pre-Dylan 50’s classic pop-folk satire, more literal than Dylan but swipes just as hard at society’s hypocrisies. Someday I’d love to take a stab at attaching some of your lyrics to melody just to see how it works. 2023-05-11T01:24:37Z Comment by MENTAL TELEPATHY I like how everything is put together I can see it all coming alive too 2023-05-10T19:54:46Z Comment by Pa' Shot The Canary great writing Dave, though provoking, sad but humourous too 👍 2023-05-10T18:27:38Z
