1 Syrinx (1913) by Mary Karen Clardy published on 2018-03-21T17:42:37Z Formed in 2002, members of the October Trio, flutist Mary Karen Clardy, violist Barbara Sudweeks, and harpist Susan Dederich-Pejovich, share the month of October for their birthdays. With a common interest and love of chamber music, the trio performs regularly in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, including performances at the Dallas Museum of Art's Horchow Auditorium, the Walden Chamber Music Series, Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of the Arts and at the University of North Texas. The music on this disc was recorded on O'Donnell Recital Hall on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in the inter of 2003. The flute-viola duet was recorded in Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano, TX in the spring of 2005. Each facility has a unique acoustic signature which we have attempted to capture to support the sounds of the different ensembles. The microphones for the flute-viola duet were placed a bit more closely than for the trio ensemble but the church's more resonant nature renders an overall similar acoustic experience. Only two microphones were utilized to record these instruments, they were placed to capture a blend of direct and reflected sound so that the listener would experience a "concert like" sound upon playback.
