Detroit
Jagged Wires is my accumulative inspirations!
The last of ten children, I was raised in Allen Park, Michigan on Blues, Beatles and Big Bands. My father Kenneth Schultz was an accomplished Big Band trumpeter and saxophonist whose career was unfortuantely derailed by WWll !
My influences vary from Howlin' Wolf to Charley Christian to Brian Eno to Peter Green, Syd Barrett, David Bowie and Scott Walker...with Savoy Brown and Can thrown in for good measure!
I've been produced by artists as diverse as members of America, John Fogerty and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, My eclectic song stylings have been captured here by such bands as Naked Youth, The Persuaders, The Nameless, Jagged Wires, Fish Eye Gravy and others. Disecting topics as far ranging as spirituality to politics...love and hate and angst and irreverence...More often than not within the same song! The key is the story told not necessarily the chords that lead it.
After relocating back to Detroit from San Clemente, CA, I formed The Nameless with fellow SoCal transplant and member of Naked Youth and The Persuaders, Chilly Bob Chilcutt.
After releasing the 4-Song cassette "A Really Big Shoe" The Nameless morphed into Emperor's New Clothes after keyboardist Todd Erkfitz left the band. ENC was nominated in two categories at the Detroit Music Awards: Best Alternative Band, Emperor's New Clothes, and Best Alternative Recording for their album "Run Around Naked".
I retired from performing after suffering serious injuries following being struck by a car in Wyandotte, Mi. While retired I mentored my two sons, James and Jeremy Schultz, as they formed their own bands including Sunlight Ascending, Wounded Touch, Not OK, Hollow Earth, Thin Skin, Porton Down, Broadacre, Joy And The Aftermath and Causal Nexus.
I also wrote and published my first novel, 'The Vela Project' (Xlibris Press) and released an accompanying CD under the same name. My first in a concept series of novel-soundtracks. I have since written 3 other novels, 'Naked Youth', 'The Houseguest' and 'They Shoulda Uber'd'...and two Screenplays.
After publishing 'The Vela Project' I went on to form Jagged Wires in 2017 with guitarists/bassists Bryan Zadrazny, former Allen Park High grad Dennis Angelotti, Chilly and Michigan Rock And Roll Hall-Of-Fame drummer Kenny Puma.
Angelotti left the band and was soon replaced by Slide-guitar wizard Richard Goodell. The band members have evolved and revolved but Jagged Wires has survived with the riddle yet solved...thus far!
Currently, rotating members include
Trina Manning, ex of Huntress, on Guitar, Richard Goodell from the EZ Kings on slide guitar, Bill Tatar on drums and Todd Erkfitz from The Nameless on keyboards and other guests such as Zev Kendra and Gary Miller on guitars and Erick Whalin and Skip Nelson revolving on bass.
Current recordings include collaborations with Christian Bouillon from the Montreal area and Walter Blamer from 'Chris And Walter' as well as brother and sister trancers Joshua and Joanna Pomeroy from the Detroit area and Swingin' sisters Teena & Teri from SoCal.
My main goal of this site is to find musicians willing to help with my musical journey.
