Hand Positions - Lesson 2 - Song 3 by Virtuoso 3.0 Music Education System published on 2018-03-21T01:00:38Z The study of scales, chords, and intervals defined by harmonic waves is further illustrated through the human hand as a natural extension of these systems. The natural rest position of the human hand and its interval expansion directly correlate with harmonic wave cycles. When scales or a series of chords and intervals are performed, hand position movement will mimic the expansion and contraction of waves in motion. The Hand Position series of songs introduces students to shifting hand positions through intervals, chords, and scalar movement. Isolated intervals are combined to form chords and also used to show the outline of melodic sequences. Ultimately students discover that hand position movement follows the outline of interval movement. Accidentals are also encountered within this song series to provide opportunities for sight reading mastery of all the octave intervals within the context of song form. Lesson 2 explores melodic movement which is created by the intermixing of diatonic movement through scale and interval jumps. This creates a wavelike contour. The melodic line can be segmented into blocks of intervals which define the hand positions for the various segments of the line. The melodic line may also contain intervals or chords placed on its root tones. Each song is written for 1 hand only. As in all other lessons within the Virtuoso 3.0 methodology, each song is written in one of the 15 different key signatures to complete a Circle of Fifths cycle. Lesson 2 - Song 3 is written in D Major which contains 2 sharps. Genre Learning
