TUS Creative Sound Design Limerick https://lit.ie/courses/lc371 These are the Sound Design projects by First Year students of Creative Broadcast and Film Production LSAD. Only students who consented have showcased their work. There was some truly excellent work by students who did not consent to show, hopefully we can encourage them in the future to show their creative talent to the world! The assignment was to create a circa 1 minute piece using field recordings and found sounds, processed and manipulated in the Reaper DAW. Students learned to process with sampling, subtractive synthesis, equalisation and reverb. For reference students listened to works by John Baker, Delia Derbyshire and David Cain of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop as well as works by graduates. The Zoom app was used to record in WAV format on smart phone. The Zoom F8 field recorder was used with a selection of handheld microphones. Students completed three cycles of reflective practice to develop their critical listening skills. This is always the most successful part of the project, bringing students new to the world of sound into its creative possibilities for picture. You will hear creative use of techniques such as microphone positioning, panning, reverb, EQ, sampling, synthesis, editing and mixing to create many varied moods and atmospheres. Enjoy!
