PRIDE MONTH 2021 (HALSTON + JUST CHARLIE) + ALL-NEW MOVIE REVIEWS (CELLULOID DREAMS) 6/10/21 by TIM SIKA (Celluloid Dreams The Movie Show) published on 2021-06-11T16:17:41Z 6/10/21 -- THIS WEEK'S CELLULOID DREAMS THE MOVIE SHOW: A smattering of 25th Anniversary interviews! In the 1970s, Roy Halston Frowick put American fashion on the international map. HALSTON follows the groundbreaking designer from his early days to the creation of hot pants and Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hat to the top of New York's fashion scene (and was the exclusive fashion choice of Liza Minnelli). We're joined by writer/director Frédéric Tcheng (DIOR AND I), who opens the door on an outrageous life lived in all its pomposity. When a rising teenage soccer star realizes she is a girl trapped inside the body of a boy, she must deal with complicated emotions, expectations and the confusion of gender dysphoria... and the question of whether she will ever play soccer again. Can she both live up to her father's expectations and inhabit her proper form? JUST CHARLIE is the film; lead actor Harry Gilby (TOLKIEN), our guest. Based on Maurice Sendak's classic book, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE introduces us to Max, a temperamental young boy with an active imagination. When he runs away from home after throwing a tantrum, he also escapes into a fantastic world inhabited by large beasts and proclaims himself their king. We chat with director Spike Jonez (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) and actor Catherine Keener (GET OUT). Plus: "Screen Scene" movie reviews (theaters or VOD if not specified) including CHANGING THE GAME [Hulu]; THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT [HBO Max] and CENSOR. * * * * * * * * This week's featured music: MY FAIR LADY (Music by Lerner & Loewe) [Sony Music Masterworks] Producer: LARRY JAKUBECZ; Film Critic: PETER CANAVESE; Host: TIM SIKA #KSJS (90.5 FM) #RadioSausalito (1610 AM) Genre Entertainment
