Developing the Menstrual Justice Agenda - 11 Dec 2019 - Dr Frances Amery by SOAS Politics published on 2019-12-20T15:53:53Z Work in the international development sector addressing menstruation has coalesced around the concept of ‘menstrual hygiene management’ (MHM). Yet MHM is a highly medicalised concept which excludes a number of issues affecting the wellbeing and dignity of women, girls and others who menstruate. Developed by legal scholars, the concept of ‘menstrual justice’ presents a welcome alternative to MHM, but work to date has mostly focused on the United States. This lecture further develops the concept of menstrual justice, drawing on the broader literature on reproductive justice, international development literature concerning menstruation and original research conducted in mid-western Nepal.
