A Celestial Ground by Theo Rodriguez published on 2024-03-10T07:08:50Z This is my newest piece and it has taken quite a bit of work to get it to this final stage. This is a work that was born out of a simple yet emotional harmonic pattern that I became obsessed with a few weeks ago. I was not quite sure what to do with such a brief harmonic statement... How could I keep repeating it without creating a boring and lifeless piece of music? Then I started to remember the beautiful harpsichord variations of the English Baroque from composers such as John Blow, Henry Purcell, and William Croft. They had written similar works referred to as "grounds" featuring simple bass lines with beautiful filigree and variations in the melodic part. I was very fortunate to have studied this repertoire deeply whilst a student of harpsichord at Yale University. Therefore, this work, though inspired by ancient music, is wholly new and through constant working and reworking has now become one of my most favourite pieces that I have ever written. I hope you all will enjoy it too. What do you see? What does my music make you feel??? Genre Classical
