Since he was a child VeO always had an attraction to music it started off with Jazz and Classic Rock, although, the gravitation was more to jazz then any other form of music. It was not until his Sophomore year in high school when his true passion was discovered in a photo lab dark room! The CD at the time fulfilled the void that up until then did not exist. This void bridged the gap between the Journey that Jazz created and the Movement that Trance and Progressive house provoked! The start of it all... Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport.
Several weeks later during the summer of 1998, and many conversations, his parents realized that the silly wooden plank piano that VeO had created from pine wood and markers was not just a toy but a the earliest incarnation of a passion that came from within. As a gift they set him up with a pair of Stanton STR8-50's. Only a few weeks later with some borrowed vinyl, a 2 channel mixer, and a crash course in beat matching, VeO played his first house party. Another realization occurred during the night, you cannot teach creativity!
By the end of his highschool carrer and the turntables seeing less and less use, as his ear had developed enough to pick up the mistakes in beat matching that plagued him. Months passed without any practice, then one rainy day with nothing better to do sparked him to pick up the headphones to give it another go, little did he know that this time was different, it was like a light switch every transition was on beat. Completely dumbfounded as to what had changed this became a day he clearly remembers.
Fast forward a few months and now behind set of turntables doing the sound check at the Queshow.com Anniversary a nervous Kid that started with a makeshift wooden piano was ready to drop the needle on his true first live performance. The sound guy at the time likely stoned at the time spoke to him that would stick forever " Esto es tu Altar, aqui das tu sermon" translated This is your Altar, here is where you give your sermon! It was on from then he thought. Scheduled to end at 2 am it was apparent that the party was not ending anytime soon with VeO behind the decks, the club was closed and the people were ushered into the sister club next door Papas & Beer. After befriending the resident DJ of the Barojo side room which hosted the impromptu after party VeO would soon earn the privilege to play Saturday nights known as their marquee night. Building a reputation with local club goers, soon parties started pushing further and further into the morning hour, on occasion 5am liquor licenses having to be purchased.
in 2006, after a chance back to back with local great Minoru Hirata, VeO as well as the resident and the audience quickly realized the synergy between them, feeding off each others groove. After many events in Mexico, an introduction by Riley Warren to another DJ who he later found out was one of the Residents for local house music radio show "Rewire". Little did VeO know that this introduction eventually lead up to playing the local Homegrown event as well as the ultimate birthday present, which was the opening spot for Satoshi Tomiie with his tour stop in San Diego. Both of these shows hosted by Giant's Spin nightclub in San Diego. A masterful back to back set on both occasions by Minoru HIrata and VeO the fire that had faded was reignited with nothing short of a memorable night.
Now with a degree in business management VeO and trusted friend and collaborator Minoru Hirata are asked to create a remix for Riley Warren's Lacuna that was to release on System Recordings, after several long nights and many approaches the track was complete and approved by both Riley and the label! Nearing the end of 2009 a forced revamping of the studio and plans to resume Audio Sessions, VeO's weekly podcast/ radio show on Queshow.com, and many new production ideas. 2010 looks to be a great year!
