VILLAIN (chch) Villain Christchurch Shaun McTague (Vocals//Guitar), Cameron Hoy (Guitar), Edward Kwon (Bass), and Richard Kwon (Drums) have been jamming together under various guises since meeting at Shirley Boys High School in 2008, before becoming Villain in 2010 after discovering a mutual love for post-punk and alternative rock music. The quartet play regularly around Christchurch and have recently released a single, titled 'Post-Human', in support for their debut self titled album. The album was recorded and mixed by Matthew Gunn and is due for release in early October. Villain's sound is characterized by scrangly, effects-laden, and atmospheric guitars, a deep and driving rhythm section, and anthemic vocal lines, characterized by McTague's baritone voice. Villain draw their inspiration from an eclectic range of influences, including but not limited to; classic post-punk, post-punk revival, shoe gaze, noise rock, new-wave, darkwave, hip-hop, electronica and doom metal. Following the release of their album, the band plans to continue to evolve their sound and hope to take their energetic and dynamic live show on a nation wide tour during the summer of 2015.
