Ghanaian gospel musician cum philanthropist Dr. Patience Aseweh Abor (a.k.a WEGEIWOR) hails from Kayoro, a village in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Wegeiwor possesses amazing talents and propensity for creativity. She grew up in a home where the sound of music was a household staple. She discovered her musical talent early and got herself involve in a local church choir whilst growing up. She likes to establish her own categories that incorporate all types of unique and incredible sounds from both the past and the present environment. In fact, she excelled throughout school in all areas of academic, and other extra-curricular activity as well.
Apart from being blessed with a great voice and excellent artistic dexterity, Wegeiwor also has a deep passion for the vulnerable and is already embarking on a project to better the lives of lots of women and children in deprived areas. A venerable social butterfly, she used her talents and office as a philanthropist, another great desire on her heart is to contribute meaningfully to empowering young under-privileged girls to aspire for greater heights. This streak of community service propels her to do more thus embarking on various projects which includes capacity building for young achievers and facillitating learning is less endowed schools at the countries poorest regions(Northern,Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana);through her foundation, the ExGlo Foundation. She is currently working with the Kayoro Women Association to acquire a Shea-butter processing machine, and has over the past 2 years donated books, and other learning materials,as well as cloths to children in poorly resourced government school in communities. Her involvement in helping the less privileged in communities with no source of portable drinking water and sending food and clothing to the needy; is not a part of some social club’s prerequisite, but from her own passion/desire to extend the Love of God to these inhabitants.
A professional nurse by training, She holds a Masters of Technology degree in Environmental Health from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa and an MPhil in Health Services Management from the University of Ghana Business School, Ghana, and a PhD holder in Management(University of Southampton), Wegeiwor though an academician, has other unique gifts, interest and pursuits which have taken her in the direction of profound experience and great accomplishment not just in the classroom, but also beyond it. She is now a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School where she lectures in Marketing Health Services, Comparative Health Systems, Healthcare Governance,Health Promotion Methods and Appproaches, amongst others. . Adding to her accomplishments she has featured in a number of stage performances at the National Theatre, notable among them was “Romantic nonsense” directed by Nii Commey Abdullah in 2009,and 'Scorned' a movie produced by Shirley Frimpong Manso.
Asked how she is able to combine the demanding academic schedule with her family life, music and running of her NGO, Wegeiwor’s answer was simple: “It’s just by the grace of God. You don’t struggle to do things when you depend on the grace of God. I believe that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That is my secret. I have no strength of my own and I’m eternally grateful to God for being my main source of strength.”
She added that “For now my focus is to get the album out and use the proceeds to support my folks from Kayoro, many of whom can’t even afford a single meal for their families. Wegeiwor is here to establish a reputation in the gospel music world and help the vulnerable as well. She often envisioned herself as able to very naturally make the kind of great contributions that often come from people with great minds and the passion and discipline required in order to bring great things into fruition.
