Whasdat Music
Detroit
WHASDAT™ Musicʼs goal is to create and present authentic music of various genres that remain true to Detroit’s musical tradition: powerful, soulful, and groundbreaking. We will reach this goal by using various formats to release music that is as appropriate for the dance floor as it is for the listening pleasure of any music lover.
WHASDAT™ Music is a reflection of who Pirahnahead is – deep, honest, and soulful. Both Pirahnahead and the label represent everything good about music: love, integrity, pride, community, W.A.R.M.T.HTM, and above all, hope. These are the same features summoned by Whasdat’s motto: “Nevermind The Question – Music Is The Answer.”
Established in 2006 by Pirahnahead, WHASDAT™ has been outlet for the world to experience soulful dance music from Pirahnahead’s musical standpoint, presenting each release with an acute vision of imagery and sound. According To Pirahnahead,
“Everything from the recording session, to the mastering process, to the branding should be customized and built to perfection, like Motown® or Stax® did, but directed toward the enthusiasts of today’s ever-changing dance music industry”
Since It’s initial offering—”Sunshine [Give Me Peace]” by Carolyn Victorian— the Detroit-based label has released a broad scope of music with its subsequent productions by Pirahnahead, including “Music,” the soulful vocal “TimeLoveLIFE,” and “Come 2gether (A Tribute to OBAMA),” and the outspoken “NGTVNRG EP [Stage 1],” which included the massive track “Self:Con-Science.”
By 2010, WHASDAT™ was known worldwide. That year, the label signed a single from UK producer James ‘BLAKSTAR’ John entitled “Smile,” featuring Deon Nathan on vocals, which received stellar reviews from DJs across the globe prior to its release. Since then, Pirahnahead’s production skills, coupled with the lyrical genius of Diviniti (of the songwriting team ‘Pirahnahead & Diviniti’), have created a string of EDM industry “eye-openers,” with the introduction of Detroit-based vocalists such as Eric King (with the singles “2Getherness,” “Keep Lifting Me”), Yaminah (“I Do Love U”), and Abby B. (“Celebrate”). The duo has also brought along artists of international and legendary status alike, including: Carolyn Harding, Stephanie Cooke, Groove Assassin, Alton Miller, and Alexsoul (of Rome’s famous nightclub Room 26). Several of these singles have received remixes from the likes of Terry Hunter, Charles Webster, Abicah Soul, Jose Carretas, Mike ‘Agent-X’ Clark, DJ Minx, the late Aaron-Carl, and have been charted by tastemakers such as Phil Asher, Fish Go Deep, Quentin Harris, Danny Krivit, and many, many more.
In recent years, WHASDAT™ Music has been a featured favorite on download sites such as Traxsource and Beatport, so it’s no question why you may hear some of your favorite DJs feature WHASDAT™ on their peaktime playlists. In essence, Pirahnaheadʼs WHASDAT™ Music presents a sound that is powerfully unique, and definitely Detroit.
