Samuel Yawson
Samuel Yawson is a Ghanaian composer and musician with a tremendous passion for art music. He began his music life at a younger age of 10 as a boy soprano. Besides composition and singing, he plays the keyboard, conducts, directs and teaches music as well.
He has been mentored by some notable Ghanaian composers like George Mensah Essilfie and Dutch Pianist Marten Tilstra and he has composed various music for vocal, choral and instrumental performances such as; 3 Piano Preludes, The Bridge Dance Keyboard Suites 1,2,3, Piano Sonata 1 in C Major, Missa Brevis in F Major for college choirs among several musical forms and with his knowledge in advanced music theory he has taught and mentored other young musicians in conducting, voice, choral, keyboard and other instruments as well as music theory and composition.
As a musician he has performed various repertoires both Western and African with some college choirs and notable choirs in Ghana as well as other instrumentalists and vocalists within and outside the country. His musicianship has been inspired and nurtured by some notable musicians within and outside Ghana such as Mr Emmanuel K.B Attah, Rev Newlove Kojo Annan, Mr George Mensah Essilfie, Mr Marten Tilstra and many others.
He received additional lessons during his sojourn in the Europe to advance his knowledge in conducting and music direction from Maestro Rutger Van Leyden, conductor of Amstelveen Symphony Orchestra, The Netherlands and also under the Mentorship of Marten Tilstra, a Dutch Pianist and Organist. He has conducted and directed some choirs in Ghana like student/youth choirs and church choirs through Western Classical and African Art Music such as Haydn’s Nelson Mass with IMCS Pax Romana Choir, University of Cape Coast, Ghana in November 2017 as conductor.
As a countertenor, he specializes in the music(arias) of the baroque period(1600). He has performed various arias by classical composers such as Bach, Händel, Purcell, Haydn and Mozart and has performed as guest soloist with some notable choirs in Ghana such as The Symphonials Ghana directed by Mr Emmanuel Ayi and Gramophone Ghana directed by Mr Theophil Asamoah-Gyadu
Academically and professionally, Samuel Yawson holds a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science) from The University of Cape Coast, Ghana and he is currently pursuing medical education as Physician Assistant(BSc) at Central University, Accra, Ghana.
