Catartsis & Ōtone - Springs [ygm11] by ygam published on 2022-02-04T17:53:03Z Following up on their first collaborative EP "Mechanical Gesture" (released on Obscuur Records in 2020 and re-issued on vinyl in 2021), the duo Catartsis & Ōtone starts off 2022 with a bang by re-launching the record label ygam — initially founded by Ōtone in 2015 — which now welcomes Ōtone's dear friend and collaborator, Catartsis, as co-curator and co-runner. The label will carry on its emphasis on tangible, percussive, and experimental music by sharing works that use concrete sonic sources, such as field recordings, found objects, and self-made instruments, as primary compositional material. As a foretaste of ygam's future publications, Catartsis & Ōtone share the single "Springs", a fizzy industrial techno track originally made in 2018 by altering and fusing an array of metal coil springs recordings. Although based on a steady 4-on-the-floor kick pattern, the track plays with the spiralling and unpredictable nature of the recordings' source to create a noisy and frisky piece of club-oriented music.
