With tastemaker support from Diplo, Don Diablo, Treasure Fingers, Tommy Trash and Cedric Gervais
‘Sticky Fingers’ is the much anticipated debut release from the young Finnish DJ, Rony Rex, released via the on-trend label Youth Control on 28th April. Instantly addictive and incorporating flavours of house and bass, ‘Sticky Fingers’ has the edge and energy of a typical Rony Rex DJ set, whether he’s on a festival stage with Armand Van Helden or hosting DJ workshops for Red Bull. With two sharp remixes from Kristian Lindell & Rico Tubbs (Digital Insomnia Groove and Bass=Win), and NiQW (This Ain’t Bristol), plus DJ support from Fatboy Slim, Don Diablo, Tommy Trash and more, this release is set to rip up dancefloors worldwide.
Representing everything that’s quality about electronic music, Youth Control is a label rapidly growing in popularity. Founded by TJH87 – who have recently remixed ‘Just Hold On’ for Steve Aoki and Louis Tomlinson – Youth Control has signed Rony Rex for a string of releases in 2017 in recognition of the technical skill Rony transfers from the dancefloor into the studio.
Those who’ve witnessed Rony Rex’s killer DJ sets, where he blends unexpected genres into seamless performances, will be thrilled with his first piece of original production. ‘Sticky Fingers’ leans towards Rony’s go-to house style featuring a hip-pop vocal with the attitude and edge of the finest bass music. Rony commented:
“I’ve built my career in quite an unusual way through DJing and promoting in clubs. Now’s the time for the rollercoaster moments and feelings that I’ve experienced over the years to come out in the form of tracks that speak a story, the story of my path in the night so far. My sets are never too serious and always have an edge. I’ve channelled this DJ experience into my production; it’s like turning the dancefloor into a musical form. I’m making music for the clubs, bass-heavy, house-inspired music that you can dance to and feel something from.”
Also host of a weekly show on Bassoradio, one of Finland’s biggest youth radio stations, Rony Rex has some rather special DJ credentials. Each month in association with Sennheiser, the sometimes Red Bull blogger streams live DJ sets from unusual locations that have so far included, a small craft in the middle of the Baltic Sea, through to up in the air on a plane circling over Helsinki! In more traditional spaces, Rony has DJ’ed at clubs and festivals across Europe, Africa and the Far East alongside A-listers such as Steve Angello, Nero and Mark Knight. With this in mind, it’s clear to see the level of skill Rony has picked up along the way as he now channels this into deft music production.
The first remix of ‘Sticky Fingers’ is the collaborative outcome of Kristian Lindell, the A&R manager of Digital Insomnia Groove, and Rico Tubbs, founder of the Bass=Win label with Terry Hooligan (Atomic Hooligan). Both hailing from Finland, their re-rub starts with an old skool vibe that morphs into the heftiest bass music that will literally destroy dancefloors!
The next re-work of ‘Sticky Fingers’ comes from NiQW, an artist known for his A&R role at My Techno Weighs A Ton (MTWAT) and for his dope productions on labels including Perfect Driver, Build It Records and Audiophile XXL. The Helsinki producer takes the original into a tech house direction laden with heavy bass.
‘Sticky Fingers’ by Rony Rex marks yet another quality release from Youth Control, a Finnish label who continue to turn heads on the global stage. 2017 is set to be a big year for Rony Rex so stay tuned to watch his story unfold.
