Y? is an intergalactic being that teleported through a black hole breaking through the time space continuum, his spaceship crashed landing in Queens NYC. Y? is a universal creative expressionist, that is not confined by the boundaries of genres or limited to a single form.
His latest release with the band entitled “Y? and the XYZ’S” catapulted him into the semi finals of the summer stage battle of the boroughs, in which he was praised for his charismatic energy, lyrical prowess, and genre bending musical style. The critically acclaimed release attracted the attention of international Jazz superstar Soweto Kinch, who invited him to perform live at the annual fly over festival show in Birmingham, UK.
Y?’s upcoming release pays homage to his roots in hip hop culture by conceptualizing a storytelling album which creates a ubiquitous harmony between the past, present and future. The record tells the tale of a fictional character, detective Jack Kelsey as he faces trials and tribulations growing up in the bowels of a corrupted American inner city. It was this type of song writing ability that earned Y? a spot on the 2010 NBA live soundtrack alongside the godfather of hip hop Afrika Bambaataa
While Y? originally started performing live with DJ’s, he gradually evolved as an entertainer and began to include costume changes, a full band and singers. He has appeared at notable venues such as Santos Party House, SOBs, the Blue Note Jazz Club, B.A.M. ( Brooklyn Academy of Music), and SoBe Live in Miami. He has shared the stage with acts such as Dead Prez, KRS 1, Shinobi Ninja, Homeboy Sandman, Immortal Technique, Rah Digga, Craig G, DJ Evil D, and DJ Kool Herc
Y? is a teaching artist and has been artistic director with Urban Art Beat since 2006. He shares his skills and talents with the next generation of upcoming youth to uplift the community and help inspire the next generation of artist.
