Listening Skills interview at the Coaching network on Ekurhuleni FM by Yoke van Dam published on 2022-07-04T09:15:47Z What energy do you bring to any conversation? This morning with load-shedding level 6, I had to get dressed and do my make-up with a flashlight and drove through the mist to Ekurhuleni FM at Emporers Palace, and yet when I walked into the studio at Ekurhuleni FM the air was warm, and the vibe just right. And we reflected off-air, on how much negativity there is in the world, and how our soul focus for this interview, was to bring energy, positivity, and growth. Some fun facts we discussed in my radio interview with Paul Rotherham and Maryke Groenewald this morning. 👉Listening can make or break any relationship. The moment you listen trust and rapport gets created. 👉Mirror neurons: what you give out to the world, is what you will get back. Paul Rotherham shared the funny story of how you get a lion to roar / open its mouth, is by jawning, and the lion will mirror what you are doing. What body language, vibe, and energy do you bring to your family, to your office, or to the Zoom room? 👉Ways to pick up if something is wrong with your relationship: are you or your partner Stonewalling? Do you run into your cave and never discuss what the issue really is? This is according to Dr John Gottman one of the biggest relationship breakers, and once I trained a team, who said a manager of theirs stonewalled them for a month. Talk about a dysfunctional relationship. 👉Tips for healthy communication: go to the Hotel with 6 Whiskeys. Ask open-ended questions using (How), Who, what, where, when, why , what, and wait for the other person to answer. 👉Don't always fill the blank spaces. Elon Musk once took 1.5 min before he answered a question, perhaps the other person is processing and thinking, give them that space.
