Study No. 1 (Blue Abalone) for solo riq is the movement that got me re- invested in the idea of a suite for solo percussionist, four years after Helix was composed. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my friend and percussionist Erik Schmidt and his new riq for inspiring me to get off my ass.
