,,Sherryaeri is based in Frankfurt am Main and tries to open spaces for queer BI*PoC representation as a community organizer and through their DJing and spoken word, using their art as an activist weapon for intersectional feminism. As a queer ,,small-fat non-binary femme" with german-egyptian roots they try to present artists, who don't get as much space as they'd deserve and mix them with arabic sounds. Mostly focusing on Hip Hop, Baile Edits and Mahraganat. Sherryaeri takes us through different genres to give us a sense of belonging and to celebrate our multidimensional realities.
Club Culture as I experience it is trash. Most of the times it is a white cis-male dominated scene and only open for fem presenting DJs, when they fit western beauty standards, chosen to please the male gaze. I believe change is very slow in club culture, also music wise. Therefore the music that includes and opens up spaces for queer BI*PoC is usually not played in commercial mainstream clubs and isn't even considered to begin with. We are not even considered a target group, so they don't see the need to create safer spaces for us and play our music. We have to create safer spaces ourselves. Claim spaces. Support each other. See each other."
