Zulu-speaking people also refer to the day as Shaka's day, whilst Afrikaans speakers refer to it as Braai Day. September is Heritage Month, and South Africans reflect on the common thread that binds our rich and diverse cultures. In the years following our first democratic elections, the country and the world celebrated what Archbishop Desmond Tutu dubbed our "rainbow nation." But the question today is whether Heritage Day and Month are still relevant considering our country's state.
