SOPHIE - Is It Cold In The Water? (JEVAN REMIX) by JEVAN

I remember the first time I heard SOPHIE which is quite rare for an artist but I think that speaks to how fresh her sound was back in 2015. I was sat in the backseat of my family car on the way to bonfire night celebrations and LEMONADE came on the radio. It was a resounding “what the fuck is this?” from all of us. Even though I didn’t understand it, I was drawn back to her work. It was something new and unexplainably queer and perhaps a big reason why I felt shame in liking it. It was exciting. SOPHIE (and all the PC-adjacent artists that I was introduced to through her) went on to become the soundtrack of my coming-of-age years.

SOPHIE lives on in memories of my friends begging me to play ‘that sophie song’ (VYZEE) at my 18th Birthday party, walking around my small conservative town on my paper round as a closeted teen with ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ blasting in my headphones, frolicking around with tinsel to MSMSMSM in my friends barn, and frantically running with my friends after downing our drinks at the campsite to catch Vroom Vroom, the last song of her set at Latitude festival. Sadly that was the only time I got to see her live but looking back I feel like that experience perfectly encapsulates the youthful chaos of SOPHIE’s music.

I owe so much to SOPHIE, maybe it’s a coincidence that I started to accept myself and rediscover my inner child at the same time as exploring this world she had opened up to me but maybe not. Finding online community of like-minded people who shared a love for PC Music was a saving grace living 100 miles from the nearest queer scene. She sparked my interest in music production too and the inclusion of my JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE remix on playlists of her unreleased music has given me a tiny audience which I’m so grateful for. So yeah, this is a part 2 and a thank you to my forever idol x
