Drew Preston has worked in the music industry for 32 years. He has been performing professionally since age 16 where he performed with his band in Dallas, "Living Proof". While attending college, Drew continued to perform with this group while also being a member of the "Atomic Jazz Quartet" in Lubbock, Texas.
Following college, Drew became a high school band director. He continued to perform with classical and jazz groups from season to season. In 2010, Drew decided to discontinue his teaching career to pursue being a full time composer and arranger. This was an eye opening experience for Drew and helped him to see that performing was his true passion.
In 2017, Drew went back to school to pursue a career in music production to help him with his songwriting and arranging. He opened his own recording studio in 2019, Craftsman Recording.
Drew has been a hired musician for groups like Conspirare, Austin Lyric Opera, Texicanna (A Robert Earl Keen Tribute Band), The Pennybackers, the Wildcards, Gilad Bogner & The Secret Menu, and the Purgatory Players. Currently, Drew performs with Jeska & the Vanity Project as well as Taylor Graves & the Tombstone Trio.
Drew lost his father in March of 2024. This began a project he always promised his father he would do. Writing his own music and speaking his own words. Drew Preston as a solo artist has only been performing in Austin for six months, but thanks to his exhaustive experience in the industry, he has hit the ground running.
Drew's music leans towards country, but is heavily influenced by artists like Tom Waits, Arlo Gutherie, and Jim Croce. His music tells stories with a Texas accent. Drew's first EP will be released in Spring of 2025.
