Comment must not exceed 1000 characters

Millie Novak (or Mighty as her teammates know her) is 15-years-old and miraculously made it on the junior roller derby team. For the homeschooler, this is her chance to finally have a social life. In Mighty Millie Novak , which is geared for grades 7 to 12, author Elizabeth Holden tells a story about the transformational power of team sports.

Holden wrote a majority of forthcoming Mighty Millie Novak while missing her own roller derby team in 2020. She sits down with Madison BookBeat host Jade Iseri-Ramos to talk about roller derby and the personal development of the title character.

Elizabeth Holden is an avid roller derby player and has played with Madison Roller Derby since 2015. Holden's league-mates know her as Auntie Matter. She teaches college physics at University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and runs an international touring company called Leaping Hound Travel. She also co-hosts a podcast called We Want to Believe which explores the science behind X-Files episodes.

Mighty Millie Novak (Flux Books) is Holden's debut novel. It is out August 20th.

A book launch party will held on August 20th at
5:30PM - 7:30PM at A Room of One's Own bookstore (2717 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704). The party will include a roller derby demonstration, book signing and food from Just Veggies.
