Single Audio Channel’s latest single, “Save or Regenerate?”, is a raw, self-aware, and timely exploration of creativity in the age of Artificial Intelligence. NOTE: No AI was used in the creation of this track.
The new single blends tongue-in-cheek storytelling with infectious indie guitar energy - classic Single Audio Channel. The song tells the story of an out-of-work creative who, caught in a moment of desperation and digital curiosity, turns to an AI songwriting app for help with his next track.
It begins with the prompt …
"Write me a song called open to work please - to advertise myself to industry colleagues"
The AI obliges, but the results are soulless. With each regenerated version, the song spirals into a loop of mechanical lyrics and emotional absence. It's clever, it's on-trend, but it's uninspiring - trying to convince the songwriter to “save” the lyrics it has generated. “Save or Regenerate?” is about that frustrating loop, the idea that you can keep hitting ‘regenerate’ on an online tool hoping for something better, but sometimes what you're really looking for can only come from within.
This soon becomes apparent, and so they stop clicking and start strumming!
Singer songwriter Glynn Hayward shared “I wanted to write this track as I’ve been seeing so many “Open to Work” callouts on professional social platforms which have obviously been AI generated making people feel inauthentic when they are actually trying to sell themselves - it just made me think, why not just write it yourself?, and hence the idea for the song”.
At a time when AI tools are rapidly reshaping creative industries, “Save or Regenerate?” offers a grounded and personal perspective. It acknowledges the power of the tool, but ultimately makes the case for emotion, imperfection, and personal truth in music. It's not anti-tech, it’s pro-heart.
Embodying the “AI robot” in the song is singer/songwriter Lara from Bath’s indie band Never the Bridle, who guest vocals with Single Audio Channel on the track.
Seems a little quiet over here
