Following Zar's 'Light Stain at Dawn' EP (early support from DJ Mag, Bandcamp, Resident Advisor, Naina, Anu, Raji Rags, Tom Ravenscroft and more), Create Define Release is excited to announce the second release from their new Pathways programme.

Based in High Wycombe, UK, MJSB has been regularly self-releasing music on Bandcamp since 2020, while also contributing to Tasha’s Neighbourhood label.

Drawing from influences across the UK’s soundsystem lineage as well as dub and minimal techno, MJSB’s music is also a reflection of her personal and spiritual side: in her words, it’s often an outlet to process grief and depression, “an outlet to express difficult emotions through sound … Music has played a massive part in my coping skills, whether that was the soothing effects during an unpredictable childhood, escapism through raving in my twenties, or isolation and focus through creating it in my thirties.”

With an AKAI MPK mini and Maschine MK2 at the heart of her stripped-down set-up, 5 Rhythms is named after Gabrielle Roths’ 5Rhythms model: a dynamic movement practice designed to ignite creativity, connection and community, full. At points stark and icy, at others warm and dubby, this EP’s five tracks put movement firmly at the forefront, and closes with a remix by Detroit techno legend Terrence Dixon. In MJSB’s words, “I’m sure most people can agree that going to the club, dancing and being free in a non-judgemental space feels liberating and harnesses a sense of connection with everybody involved … swimming through the sounds and feeling the vibrations through your body.”
