Back then, you used to love to brush your teeth
You’d laugh, while I was tickling your feet
I still feel your hand in my pocket, as we tried to make sense at the oncology office
Back then, we all moved to the city
Where I know, we tried everything
All this time later it still feels fresh, but the few years we had I’ll never forget
Back then I did the best that I could
Back then, I don’t know what I could
Have done different, or should have done better, as I sit here going through photos and letters
Somehow, by the grace of God
I found, the will to carry on
I’m still trying to make lemonade, but all of my friends still call you by name
Oh I wish I could hold you and kiss you again
But I carry with me the memories of the way you were back then
Last night, you came to visit me
It’s been a while since I saw you in my dreams
I can still hear the sound of you laughing, as I pulled you around in your little red wagon
I hope, you found the others we have loved
And lost, and that you’re watching from above
And you’re spending some time with your brother, that you’re catching up and looking out for each other
Back then I did the best that I could
Back then, I don’t know what I should
Have done different, or could have done better, as I sit here going through photos and letters
Somehow, by the grace of God
I found, the will to carry on
I’m still trying to make lemonade, but all of my friends still call you by name
Oh I wish I could hold you and kiss you again
But I carry with me the memories of the way you were back then
Someday, when I get my own set of wings
We’ll fly, & we’ll do everything
I can’t wait to hear your stories, follow your footsteps & bask in His glory
Oh I can’t wait to hold you and kiss you again
So I’ll carry all these memories until then
How could I ever forget the way you were back then
