The primary aim of this project was to take a concept that is dark, ancient, and heavy and attempt to make it “cool”. dark man demo tapes is a slow-burn conceptual ep, created to capture the essence of the folkloric dark man in occult and magickal traditions. Musically and linguistically it attempts to convey a message that elucidates the experience of an encounter with the dark man, as well as provides insight into his wisdom, and provide guidelines for engaging with this known “other”. Fundamentally, it conveys a language that both occult practitioners and laymen can understand or enjoy and highlights the essential attitude of engaging in this work. There is a world beyond the mundane senses, dark man demo tapes attempts to invite others to this world and shed light on the many challenges and treasures to expect upon being granted entry. Like the majority of my music catalog, dark man demo tapes was recorded with an iPhone, with the bulk of the album aside from the song “twin towers” recorded within the span of 3 days.
