Carmen Souza's 10th album - Interconnectedness - exposes the vulnerability brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and deals with personal loss, humanity and the way we are all Interconnected.
"As composers, me and Theo went through major reflection as artists and there was a greater amount of experimentation in the production. The longing for stages and tours made us reminisce on the many performances around the world and bring this joyful element to the album. "
Carmen Souza tells stories from real life, immerses herself in melancholy and sparkles with a zest for life, supported by her African roots, she draws on a rich musical treasure. With her extravagant jazz voice, Carmen Souza blends jazz lines with Cape Verdean sounds, scatted and caressing the melodies.
Her songs sound fascinating and at the same time familiar. The mix of West African rhythms and contemporary jazz is her personal recipe, which Downbeat Magazine praised as a "recipe for artistic success".
"As with every album that we have made throughout all these years, the music always evolves to other perspectives and meanings as it is performed in the many stages of the world, so I look forward to seeing what this music has in store and to accompanying its evolution."
Interconnectedness was recorded between - SESSIONS - Carmen Souza & Theo Pascal's creative hub in Lisbon, and their base in London and includes sound innovation and recording experimentation that takes the Duo sound into a new chapter.
Interconnectedness features the amazing talent of Carmen Souza, Theo Pascal, Marcos Alves, Zoe Pascal, Elias Kacomanolis, India Pascal, Ben Burrell and Lenny Sendersky.
