The Radical Road (Phil Alexander) / Roeselare (Gavin Marwick)
The first tune is inspired by one of Holyrood’s loveliest paths. It’s famed for craggy rock faces and spectacular views, although the mood here is more suited to the mist-filled moments when you can only see a few yards ahead, and the sole accompaniment is the crunch of your own footsteps.
In 2016 we were invited to Belgium, to perform in the High Kirk In Passchendaele, in a centenary show commemorating the battle. Roeselare, not far east of there, was an important rail supply route for the German army in Flanders. This tune, amidst sadness and strength, tries to convey a sense of the damage, both physical and psychological, inflicted on the people and their town during war and occupation.

Seems a little quiet over here
