Nogu Svelo! is a legendary Russian-American punk rock band known for its energetic sound, sharp humor, and bold political stance. Founded in 1988 in Moscow, the band quickly gained a cult following with its unique fusion of pop-punk, rock, and experimental elements. Over the years, Nogu Svelo! has released 20 albums, 72 music videos, and won numerous awards, including MTV Russia’s Best Soundtrack.
In 2018, amid increasing censorship in Russia, the band’s leader Max Pokrovsky relocated to Brooklyn, New York, revamping Nogu Svelo! with American musicians. Since then, the band has continued to evolve, performing both their Russian hits and new English-language material, expanding its reach to global audiences.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Nogu Svelo! became one of the most outspoken anti-war voices in the Russian music scene. The band released 10 anti-war songs, including "We Don’t Need War," "Russia, Go Home!," and "Ukraine," with their music videos "Prison Romance" and "Happy New Year, My Son" winning multiple international film festival awards. All these songs were included in the album "Amputation", which was released in 2024. Their activism led to an official ban in Russia, but their message resonated worldwide.
In 2023-2024, Nogu Svelo! completed a world tour spanning 56 cities across four continents, raising $100,000 for Ukraine. The band has also actively supported refugee shelters, humanitarian aid, and medical support for Ukraine, contributing to the funding of two ambulances and a mobile hospital. In 2023, they performed at AWIIFF, the first independent anti-war film festival, playing for over 1,000 people in Estonia.
Now based in the United States, Nogu Svelo! continues to blend music with activism, delivering high-energy performances and standing as a powerful voice for freedom, resistance, and humanitarian efforts.
