Philadelphia native, Vanessa “Big Meep” Torres, best known for her role as activist and spokesperson within the medical marijuana community, has turned her attention to music. Influenced by soulful artists before her time, she often spent hours as a child listening to tune after tune with her father. Big Meep could even be found front and center in her middle school and high school choir. The desire to be musically creative was always an ambition, but she had yet to find a suitable outlet.
As a brand ambassador for Women of Weed, Big Meep was introduced to Khaliah Clark, celebrity stylist and host of the “Who’s Styling Who” show on DTF Radio in New York. Clark recognized Big Meep’s energetic, free-spirit and brought her onboard as a regular guest co-host to the show. It was on the show, where Big Meep embraced having her opinions heard and her love for the mic grew. Not long after this experience in 2019 with the support of Cypher City TV and Zone6 Studios NYC, Big Meep launched her very own podcast called Blazed Ones, where she highlighted an interesting twist on music, fashion, bud and much more. Her first guest was Hip-Hop artist and music mentor, Pete Colon. Building her relationships with Clark, Colon, and other influencers Big Meep’s desire to add another layer of creativity came to the surface. With an audience ready and waiting, it was time to create her own music.
“I’ve got a story. I’m not your average stoner and it’s okay to create your own rules.”
Playful songs like “Daydreams (feat. SgeLexx)” and “FraggleRocked” showcase Big Meep’s confident and radiating personality. It is rare that you will ever catch her without a smile. While “Frozen (feat. Ravon Reddick)” and “GDY”, let Big Meep give her audience a piece of her laid-back side. As an authentic artist, Big Meep wants to share her story in a relatable and transparent way and these songs are just the beginning. Life comes with twist, turns, ups and downs, but the goal is to be a fighter. The theme throughout Big Meep’s music is to be encouraged through your resiliency.
