David McGlynn

David McGlynn is an American singer-songwriter, musician, photographer & writer.
His music is a blend of indie-pop, alternative & soundscapes. In addition to singing, he plays acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums & percussion. His latest project is titled “In Pursuit of an Authentic Life” and is scheduled for an April 25, 2015 release. The songs blend a folk sentiment with an indie-pop sensibility and the variety of song styles come to life combining a wide-range of quirky instrumentation with lush vocal arrangements & string orchestration.
It was recorded & produced by Norm DeMoura at Harmonium Studios in western MA. Norm has worked with a number of notable artists including NRBQ member & pianist Terry Adams. “In Pursuit…” features guest performances by Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Seven Mary Three) on drums, Joe Boyle (Peter Tork) on guitar, Scott Levesque (Wheat) on backing vocals & guitar and Rick Lescault (skyjelly jones | emetrex) on lap slide guitar.
Prior to becoming a solo artist, David was a founding member, bass player & drummer of EMETREX, a Boston-based indie | alternative rock band that came together in 1998. Originally compared to indie bands Grandaddy, Sparklehorse & early Radiohead, their later recordings & bombastic live performances drew comparisons to the White Stripes & Black Keys. The band signed a record deal with Seriously Groovy Records, an independent London-based record label in 2000.
While with Seriously Groovy, EMETREX released nine CD’s & EP’s (50+ songs) in a five year period including the critically acclaimed “King of Animals” single in 2000 which received BBC airplay and was supported with a tour through England, Ireland & Scotland in 2001.
The band received over 500 reviews including: “Wish Me Dead” CD in 2005 which received 5/5 stars in The Big Issue (April 4 – 10, 2005), “…hold on, it might just be one of the best albums all year!” with PR & press support by covert PR.
David was also a founding member & bass player of the post-punk band BLAIR’S CARRIAGE. Hailing from Providence, RI, they formed in the late part of 1991 and starting playing local shows soon after. In 1993, BLAIR”S CARRIAGE signed a singles deal with Subcorridor Records & released tepid / everyone I know.” As a band, BLAIR”S CARRIAGE released five EP’s & singles (20 songs) in a four year period. Becoming a perennial regional favorite, they played over 275 shows together, received airplay on WBRU - the biggest alternative rock station in Rhode Island & consistently opened for national acts including: Blind Melon, Smithereens, Jim Carroll, Morphine, Guster, Soup Dragons & Cake.
