A Streetcar Named Desire 2. French Quarter by Lucas Richman published on 2015-06-12T04:33:46Z For a 1982 production of the Tennessee Williams play, A Streetcar Named Desire, actress Helen Richman, starring as the character Blanche DuBois, engaged her son, Lucas, (then 17 years old) to write the incidental music for the production. The composer created a score for Dixie jazz band and string quartet featuring two distinct melodies that shadow the actors throughout the play. The theme representing Blanche is heard here in various incarnations on tracks 1, 6 and 10, while the trumpet, representing Stanley, plays his theme most clearly in track 4. Track 9 underscores the moment during which Stanley finally overpowers Blanche, as the trumpet mockingly blasts Blanche’s theme. This present recording was created for the 2009 Clarence Brown Theatre production (University of Tennessee, Knoxville), directed by Cal MacLean and starring Dale Dickey.
