Here, Once was a Sea
by Parasang

Industrial Sounds, Microtonal Melodies, surreal sounding acoustic Instruments, Sub laden Kicks, Deep Baselines and Polyrhythmic Beats Featuring renowned Artists from the Iranian Diaspora

Parasang is a collaborative project by, experimental electronic musician, Pouya Ehsaei (En'treact, Zabt-e-Sote/OpalTapes, Ariwo). Since 2018, Pouya has led collaborations with over 70 musicians from around the globe over 30 shows. Here, Once Was a Sea is the first documented album of these collaborations for which he has worked with renowned Iranian artists.

The album is about Pouya's first encounter with the Maranjab desert in Iran – the inspiring emptiness of the desert and the eerie presence of the sea which was once there. Recorded live in Vienna, the album features a blend of improvised elements from electronics, double-neck guitar, clarinet and vocals.

The music explores the frictions between electronic and instrumental music: noise, meets jazz, meets Iranian tonalities. It connects genres, languages and instruments, incorporating industrial sounds, microtonal melodies, surreal vocals, deep baselines, and polyrhythmic beats.
