The inspiration for “You Should Have Asked Me Sooner” comes from a very personal place. Written for his wife, the song recounts the story of their second date and the moment Tom knew he was going to marry her. In Tom’s own words:

“This song was actually written about my second date with my wife. We went swimming in Newquay Harbour in the UK. Once we had swum out and were out of our depth, Alice suddenly turned round in a panic and asked if I was scared of seals. It turns out that a seal lives in the harbour and regularly comes out to play with the swimmers. She was so terrified that I was going to panic and I found it hilarious. Luckily, I am not scared of seals... she left it too late to ask otherwise! At that moment, I knew that I was going to marry her. Now we are 2 and a half years into our marriage and she is still as daft!”
