The Standouts is the fall 2022 single from Nashville-based Country Music Artist and Professional Baseball Player Bryan Ruby. In 2021, Ruby became the only active professional baseball player to come out as gay at the time, and his story was featured on the front page of USA Today & in hundreds of media outlets around the world.
As a songwriter, Ruby has penned songs that have appeared on the Texas Country Top 50 chart and the iTunes Country Top 25, and songs he has written have been featured on both Huffington Post and People Magazine. As an artist, he won Season 7 of the talent-search competition Nashville Rising Song, and is preparing for the release of his upcoming debut EP due out in 2023.
Ruby's first single, Left Field, was featured on The TODAY Show and added to rotation on SiriusXM Country Pride, as well as the Academy of Country Music's Ultimate Pride Playlist. He is currently on a Stadium Tour singing the National Anthem and performing pregame and postgame concerts at ballparks around the country.
“The Standouts” is all about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This song is for all the good people who haven’t got the recognition they deserve. Bryan Ruby has dedicated this song to his grandfather aka Pops and his sister. Pops is a proud US Army veteran who raised a family of five kids and he’s still inspiring everyone, even at 84 years old. His hard work and can-do attitude are the reasons Bryan’s family is here today. Bryan’s sister teaches middle school math at one of the poorest school districts in the country and this song is for her too. It may be a thankless job, but it’s inspiring to know how passionate she is about helping those kids.

"One of the coolest things about 'The Standouts' is that everybody knows a standout in their life,” expressed Bryan Ruby. “It will mean different things to different people. I love when a song does that."
"This song is for all the kids that are brave enough to go against the grain - the ones who don’t fall in line and just be their genuine selves,” shared co-writer Anthony Fiddler.
"This song, ‘The Standouts’ means a lot to me. For me it’s about giving a nod to those inspiring people on the front lines of making the world a little better,” said co-writer, Chad Sellers. To quote our song, ‘If no one stood up, where would we be now?’”
"A feel good jam that’s also uplifting and inspirational,” stated producer Smith Curry.
“It’s the wounded vet who can’t turn off the noise
The unsung teacher who does nothing but give
It’s the kid sitting alone at lunch, who’s kind to everyone
Even when the world ain’t kind to him
The “I have a dream-ers”
With the nerve to say we’re equal
The Hell bent believers
Life changin’ kind of people
Here’s to The Standouts
The picked on and the pushed down
We are who we are
And we have the heart
To stick out from the crowd
The way we’re living
Might make us different
But if no one stood up
Where would we be now?
Here’s to The Standouts
