With the album "EcoMadres," Latin ensemble SonTierra commemorated Earth Day 2023. This collection of songs is about climate change, air pollution, ecosystem destruction, environmental justice, taking action, and finding hope.
Using a mix of original songs and cover songs in a wide of range of Latin music styles such as cumbia, banda, bolero, merengue, balada, and even Andean folk music, SonTierra hopes to inspire listeners, and especially Latino communities, to take action by speaking up about their environmental concerns and reaching out to legislators and leaders at the local, state, and federal levels.
SonTierra is a multi-Latin, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational ensemble made up of musicians from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, and Venezuela. The songs on this album are mostly in Spanish but include a few bilingual tunes.
