DINO SPILUTTINI- EROS (TA002)
Rave brutalism: with Eros Dino Spiluttini applies a brutalist ethic to composing minimalist club music.
Among brutalism’s core tenets are that structural elements should lie exposed,
that form should answer function, and that material should be appreciated for its
inherent qualities. On all three levels brutalism is likely to disregard, if not directly
oppose, the decorative sentimentality of nostalgia.
From Death Chants II (2022) onwards Dino Spiluttini has sought in his work to
discard unnecessary ornamentation in club music, keeping only raw elements
of transcendent and sensual expression. Comprising acapellas, pads, stabs and
sparse percussion, Eros is Spiluttini’s latest entry in this project. With imposed
structural simplicity, angularly patterned melodies and production keen to expose
the grain of the material, the EP invokes a brutalist method. Its ultimate task is
perhaps to shear away contemporary trance’s frills of nostalgia while leaving
intact and recognisable its genre’s inherent sensuality.
Eros is the second release on the Tortured Anthems imprint, a new label founded
by Dino Spiluttini mainly as an outlet for his own productions.
